A SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD OF EDUCATION: Dear Center Moriches Community, Earlier this evening, the Board of Education had the distinct pleasure and honor of announcing the appointment of Dr. Ricardo Soto as the District’s next permanent superintendent of schools. As you know, Dr. Soto has been serving as the District’s interim superintendent of schools since August 2024. Over the past seven months, Dr. Soto has been instrumental in pushing forward our collaborative vision, using the Board’s goals as a roadmap to make critically important enhancements to our PreK-12 curriculum and student services. Dr. Soto, as a recognized leader in the field of special education, has been working tirelessly with our special education team to ensure this student population is afforded an exceptional learning experience delivered with compassion and understanding. Attentive to the ever-increasing challenges of providing a high-quality education to today’s PreK-12 students, Dr. Soto has led our outstanding faculty in reviewing all grade-level curriculum to ensure our students receive a first-class education that prepares them with the skills, vision, and confidence to succeed in whatever and wherever their life choices and passions take them after graduation. Dr. Soto, as a 19-year resident of Center Moriches with his family, has a deep understanding of our community. Two of his three children are Center Moriches graduates and his third child is a current Center Moriches student. He has seen Center Moriches evolve over the years, both as a resident and a member of the Center Moriches Union Free School District for the past 21 years. His genuine care for the children of our community, in both their academics and social-emotional well-being, is evident in all his interactions with our students and their families. Dr. Soto is a recognized educational leader on Long Island, respected by his fellow Long Island superintendents for his innovative approaches to achieving positive educational outcomes for all students. His background in human resources has also been instrumental in establishing a teaching environment and Districtwide culture that has, and will continue to attract, forward-thinking educators to our classrooms. Dr. Soto’s service as our interim superintendent of schools has showcased his leadership and communication skills and his unparalleled ability to build cooperative and collaborative relationships with parents, the larger Center Moriches community, and the faculty and staff of the District. There is a new energy in our District, a positive excitement for all that has been accomplished and a palpable confidence in all that will continue to be achieved under Dr. Soto’s stewardship. In choosing an educational leader, the Board knew we had to select an individual with strong administrative experience and leadership qualities. Our students and community deserved an individual who would have the respect of their fellow central and building administrators as well as our teachers. Our next educational leader had to have the ability to bring people together in a collaborative fashion in order to push forward new, evidenced-based student programs and services. Finally, the next person to lead our District had to have the trust of parents, students, the Board, and the greater Center Moriches community. In conducting a formal evaluation of Dr. Soto’s performance since August 2024, it became absolutely clear to the Board that Dr. Soto met and exceeded all these benchmarks and more. Dr. Soto is, quite simply, the perfect choice as the next superintendent of schools of the Center Moriches School District. Please join us in congratulating Dr. Soto on his appointment as our superintendent of schools.
