NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING FOR PROPOSED RESOLUTIONS REGARDING PROPERTY TAX EXEMPTIONS
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Board of Education of the Center Moriches Union Free School District will hold a public hearing on March 25, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. prior to its regular public meeting in the Center Moriches District Office Board Room at 529 Main Street, Center Moriches, New York to consider the possible adoption of resolutions regarding certain property tax exemptions authorized under the New York State Real Property Tax Law.
The proposed resolutions relate to the following exemptions:
A property tax exemption of up to fifty percent (50%) for surviving spouses of police officers killed in the line of duty, pursuant to Real Property Tax Law §471.
A property tax exemption of up to fifty percent (50%) for surviving spouses of volunteer firefighters and volunteer ambulance workers killed in the line of duty, pursuant to Real Property Tax Law §466-a.
Expanded property tax exemption levels for qualifying senior citizens, pursuant to Real Property Tax Law §467.
A property tax exemption for veterans who are permanently and totally disabled as a result of military service, pursuant to Real Property Tax Law §458-a (automatically applicable under State law).
Upon the conclusion of this public hearing, the Center Moriches Board of Education intends to vote on resolutions related to these exemptions at its public meeting on March 25, 2026.
