Center Moriches High School Hosts STEM Day for Young Learners
Center Moriches High School recently welcomed fourth and fifth grade students from Clayton Huey Elementary School for an exciting and educational “STEM Day,” transforming the school gymnasium into a dynamic, science fair-style learning environment.
During the event, elementary students rotated through a variety of interactive booths led by high school students and staff, engaging in hands-on experiments and activities designed to spark curiosity and deepen their understanding of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
Stations featured a wide range of topics, including robotics demonstrations, experiments with static electricity, and paper airplane design challenges. Students also had the opportunity to create their own projects and take their work home, extending the learning experience beyond the classroom.
The event highlighted the power of collaboration across grade levels, as high school students took on leadership roles to guide and mentor younger peers. Through these meaningful interactions, participants not only explored scientific concepts but also built connections that foster a strong, supportive learning community.
“STEM Day is a wonderful example of how collaboration can enhance learning at every level,” said Marissa Mangogna, Center Moriches High School principal. “By bringing our students together, we’re able to ignite curiosity, encourage creativity, and inspire the next generation of innovators. Watching our high school students take pride in mentoring younger learners makes this experience even more impactful.”
