Center Moriches alum Larry Gualtieri was recently announced as an inductee into the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Hall of Fame. Larry was a member of the Center Moriches High School Class of 1972 and is one of the most highly respected officials in New York State high school sports.
Larry Gualtieri has officiated Section XI soccer, basketball, and baseball in Suffolk County since 1974. Nearly every year he has been named one of the top-rated officials in the county, consistently being chosen to officiate the playoffs in all three sports. He has also been invited multiple times to officiate the NYSPHSAA Boys Basketball and Boys Soccer state championships.
Mr. Gualtieri was inducted into the Center Moriches High School Hall of Fame in 2014, and will join Sue Wicks and Paul Gibson as the third Center Moriches alum to be inducted into the NYSPHSAA Hall Of Fame.
“Larry Gualtieri has become a name synonymous with Suffolk County sports,” said Jeremy Thode, Center Moriches’ Director of Health, PE, Athletics & Campus Safety Management. “He has spent years cultivating a highly respectable reputation in the state, and we are proud to call him one of our own.”
Mr. Gualtieri will be inducted in a ceremony this July, alongside administrator Bill Bryant, coach Don Cupertino, coach Terrence “T” McMahon, contributor Marty Sherman, and athlete Carl “Rollie” Stichweh.
