Budget Information 2024-25

BUDGET VOTE AND BOARD OF EDUCATION ELECTION

The vote will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 in the High School Library at 311 Frowein Road.

VOTING

Voter qualifications are thus: United States citizen; 18 years of age or older; and a permanent resident within the District for a period of thirty (30) days immediately prior to the vote.

In order to vote, an individual must also be registered with either the school district or with the Suffolk County Board of Elections. The individual’s voter registration must reflect a residence which is within the boundaries of the Center Moriches Union Free School District.

Any qualified resident may register to vote in this year’s election at the District Office, located at 529 Main Street, Center Moriches, NY 11934, during regular business hours, from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, on days when school is in session, until May 12, 2023.

VOTER REGISTRATION

Notice is also given that personal registration of voters is required pursuant to Section 2014 of the Education Law. Any qualified voter may register to vote for the Annual School District Election and Vote at the District Office as described above. The register for said Annual School District Election and Vote shall include all persons who shall have presented themselves personally for registration and shall also include all persons who shall have been previously registered for and have voted at any annual or special school district election or vote held or conducted during the 2020, 2021, 2022 or 2023 calendar years. A resident who is registered with the Suffolk County Board of Elections with an address within the geographical boundaries of the school district is also qualified to vote. Voter qualifications are thus: must be a United States citizen; 18 years of age or older; and a permanent resident within the District for a period of thirty (30) days immediately prior to the vote.

ABSENTEE BALLOTS

Absentee Ballot applications must be received by the District Clerk not more than thirty (30) and at least seven (7) days prior to the election and vote, if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or the day before the election and vote if the ballot is to be personally picked up by the voter or the voter’s designated agent set forth on the application. Absentee Ballots must be received by the District Clerk no later than 5:00 p.m. on the day of the election and vote, May 21, 2024.

MILITARY VOTER REGISTRATION AND BALLOTS

Military voters may apply to register as a qualified voter of the school district and/or submit an application for a military ballot. Military voters may designate a preference to receive a military voter registration, military ballot application or military ballot by mail, facsimile transmission or electronic mail in their request for such registration, ballot application or ballot. Military voter registration application forms and ballot applications must be received in the Office of the District Clerk by mail by no later than 5:00 p.m. on April 25, 2024. No military ballot will be canvassed unless it is returned by mail and received in the office of the District Clerk by no later than 5:00 p.m. on election day.

PUBLIC HEARING ON THE BUDGET

Notice is hereby given that the Board of Education of the Center Moriches Union Free School District will hold a public hearing on the budget, on May 8, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. for the purpose of presentation of the 2024-2025 budget.

BOARD OF EDUCATION ELECTION

Anyone interested in becoming a candidate for the Board of Education of the Center Moriches Union Free School District may contact the District Clerk for a nominating petition packet beginning February 22, 2024.

There is one seat available; for one (1) three-year terms commencing July 1, 2024 and expiring June 30, 2027. The Board member election will be held on May 21, 2024, the same date / time as the District’s vote on the 2024-2025 school budget.

Nominating petitions:

Nominating petitions are due in the District Office no later than Monday, April 22, 2024 at 5:00 pm with at least twenty-five (25) signatures of qualified voters of the district. Potential candidates are strongly encouraged to obtain more than 25 signatures to ensure that petitions include at least 25 valid signatures.

Board of Education member qualifications are as follows:

• Must be able to read and write.

• Must be a qualified voter of the district; that is, a citizen of the United States, at least 18 years of age or older, and not adjudged to be incompetent.

• Must be and have been a resident of the district for a continuous and uninterrupted period of at least one year immediately preceding the election.

• May not have been removed from any school district office within the preceding year.

• May not reside with another member of the same school board as a member of the same family.

• May not be a current employee of the school district.

• May not simultaneously hold another incompatible public office.

REGISTRO DE VOTANTES

Las solicitudes de boleta de voto ausente deben ser recibidas por el Secretario de Distrito no más de treinta (30) y al menos siete (7) días antes de la elección y la votación, si la boleta se enviará por correo al votante, o el día antes de la elección y votar si la boleta será recogida personalmente por el votante o el agente designado del votante establecido en la solicitud. Las boletas de voto en ausencia deben ser recibidas por el Secretario del Distrito a más tardar a las 5:00 p. m. el día de la elección y votación, 21 de mayo de 2024.

REGISTRO Y PAPELETAS DE VOTANTES MILITARES

Los votantes militares pueden solicitar registrarse como votantes calificados del distrito escolar y/o presentar una solicitud para una boleta militar. Los votantes militares pueden designar una preferencia para recibir un registro de votante militar, una solicitud de boleta militar o una boleta militar por correo, transmisión por fax o correo electrónico en su solicitud de dicho registro, solicitud de boleta o boleta. Los formularios de solicitud de inscripción de votantes militares y las solicitudes de boleta deben recibirse en la Oficina del Secretario de Distrito por correo a más tardar a las 5:00 p. m. el 25 de abril de 2024. No se escrutará ninguna boleta militar a menos que se devuelva por correo y se reciba en la oficina del Secretario de Distrito a más tardar a las 5:00 p.m. el día de las elecciones.

AUDIENCIA PÚBLICA SOBRE EL PRESUPUESTO

Por la presente se notifica que la Junta de Educación del Distrito Escolar Libre Unión Center Moriches llevará a cabo una audiencia pública sobre el presupuesto, el 8 de mayo de 2024 a las 7:00 p.m. a los efectos de la presentación del presupuesto 2024-2025.

ELECCIÓN DE LA JUNTA DE EDUCACIÓN

Cualquier persona interesada en convertirse en candidato para la Junta de Educación del Distrito Escolar Libre de Center Moriches Union puede comunicarse con el Secretario del Distrito para obtener un paquete de petición de nominación a partir del 22 de febrero de 2024.

Hay un asiento disponible; por un (1) mandato de tres años que comenzará el 1 de julio de 2024 y finalizará el 30 de junio de 2027. Peticiones de nominación:

Se recomienda encarecidamente a los candidatos potenciales que obtengan más de 25 firmas para garantizar que las peticiones incluyan al menos 25 firmas válidas.

Las calificaciones de los miembros de la Junta de Educación son las siguientes:

• Debe saber leer y escribir.

• Debe ser un votante calificado del distrito; es decir, un ciudadano de los Estados Unidos, de al menos 18 años de edad, y no declarado incompetente.

• Debe ser y haber sido residente del distrito por un período continuo e ininterrumpido de por lo menos un año inmediatamente anterior a la elección.

• No puede residir con otro miembro de la misma junta escolar como miembro de la misma familia.

• No puede ser un empleado actual del distrito escolar.

• No podrá desempeñar simultáneamente otro cargo público incompatible.
