Students Compete in Middle School Spelling Bee

Middle school students gathered in the library for some friendly spelling competition. The annual spelling bee challenged students of all grade levels to step in front of the judges and spell out words through several rounds. Congratulations to this year’s champion, seventh grader Ryan Dalton! Second place went to sixth grader Kerilyn Curley, and eighth grader Lucas Lin took third.

CMMS Presents, ‘Descendants: The Musical’

Center Moriches Middle School students stepped on stage for two live performances of Disney’s “Descendants: The Musical” on Dec. 6 and 7. After weeks of hard work and rehearsals, members of the drama club performed in front of live audiences made up of families, friends and community members. They told the story of the children of Disney villains and the internal battle they face – should they follow in their parents’ footsteps, or learn to be good? The shows were packed with singing, dancing and comedy, making for a fun experience for all.

Heroes Walk the Halls of Center Moriches

On Nov. 8, the Center Moriches School District held its annual Walk of Heroes, inviting local veterans to be honored by students and staff. High school and middle school students first lined the halls of their building, waving American flags as the veterans and their family members proudly marched through. The walk then made its way to Clayton Huey Elementary School, ending with a breakfast for guests. In addition to participating in the parade and showing off their patriotism, students also learned about Veterans Day through lessons and activities in the classroom.
